Catching Fire Movie Release To Do’s…and a Giveaway!

November 10, 2013 Giveaway 66

CF 2

1) Request the day off of work for Friday, November 22.
I considered going at midnight on Thursday, but I imagine that will be TOO much craziness, and am I really going to be feeling alert by the time it ends after 2 AM?
STATUS: COMPLETE

2) Purchase a ticket at a theater that has reserved seating for the 9 AM show.
Reserved seating for a huge release on opening day is key for me.  I avoid opening days whenever possible, because I like to stay away from the crowds, but Catching Fire is a movie that I MUST see right away.  And the reserved seats eliminates the need to get to the theater super early, even though I plan to be there by 8:30 AM, which is still pretty damn early.
STATUS: COMPLETE

3) Debate whether to re-read Catching Fire.
It’s been a couple of years since I last read Catching Fire.  I thought about re-reading it before the film release, but I decided I wanted to go into it as “fresh” as possible.  There’s a lot that I can’t recall now from the book, so that should make the experience of watching the movie more exciting.
STATUS: COMPLETE

4) Share in the excitement by giving away books from The Hunger Games trilogy.
STATUS: PENDING!

Several weeks ago, I did a STS post that included my purchase of the new UK Hunger Games paperbacks.  You can see the details in this postbut the short story is that the USPS mangled and opened the package and damaged the books, and I ultimately ended up with two sets.  So, I’ve got one set to give away!  To be clear, they are NOT in perfect condition, as you can see from the photos below.  There is some bending and peeling of the covers, as well as dog-eared pages in one book.  So, while they are new books, they were completely unacceptable as a purchase (especially since buying and getting them shipped from the UK wasn’t cheap.).  However, as a freebie, I think they’re great.

There will be two winners for this giveaway.  The U.S. winner will receive the full series pictured above, and a non-U.S. winner will receive his/her choice of a paperback of either The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, or Mockingjay from The Book Depository.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

So, tell me:  Are you ridiculously excited for the movie?  Do you plan to re-read Catching Fire?  Or, if you haven’t read the books, what are you waiting for???  🙂

And while you wait for the movie, enjoy this awesome clip of cats acting out The Hunger Games.

I’m so excited for Catching Fire! Back in September I had all these grandeur plans to reread The Book Thief before its movie comes out and reread The Hunger Games and Catching Fire before its movie comes out, but sadly school majorly got in the way 🙁 I doubt I’ll be able to reread The Book Thief before seeing the movie this month, so I’ll have to either watch the movie without rereading or watch the movie way later than everyone else. But I’m starting to reread The Hunger Games, so hopefully I can finish it this week to start Catching Fire! The second book was my favourite in the trilogy, so I have BIG expectations for this movie!

I hope your expectations are met! I was somewhat disappointed in The Hunger Games film, and the relatively low budget wasn’t enough to explain all the problems. They’re fortunate they had great actors. Now, with a bigger budget and a new (hopefully better director), I have high hopes for Catching Fire.

Thanks for visiting my blog post about Gravity.

I must admit that I’m excited about Catching Fire. I read the book a while ago, so it’d be nice to see what’s done with the source material.

Alongside seeing Gravity last week, Saving Mr Banks tomorrow plus Catching Fire, Carrie and the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special, I have to admit that November’s going to be a very busy month at the cinema for me.

Enjoy Catching Fire… and your day off.

I really loved the graphics in the Hunger Games movie, and I also just enjoyed the development of the characters in the books.

  4. Michelle

I also wanted to have the story fresh, so I bought the audio book so I can hear it in the office, I work a little slower, but i have so much fun now hehehe

  5. Alexandra

First off, I love your book covers! I have never seen them before.
I can’t wait for the movie! Catching Fire is my favourite out of the series.

  6. Kristi

I’m so excited about the movie! However, I definitely have to reread the series because I read each book when they first came out (yes, even The Hunger Games!)
Anyway, I remember you posting these pictures on twitter of the magled boxes, such a shame! Glad you got a second set though.
    XO, Kristi

  7. January

Ooh I love the covers of the books, so shiny! Somehow I forgot that it was getting so close to the release date, which is odd because I’ve been anticipating its release for months! Thanks for the giveaway! 😀

  8. Melissa Golden

I love that The Hunger Games is based on a strong female main character and its not just about romance!

  9. Tammy

I’m seeing Catching Fire for the first showing on Sunday the week it opens. Sunday is always the day to see movies around here because it’s dead, love it no distractions or crying babies.

  10. Lisa B.

I’m struggling over who to go see Catching Fire with. I saw the last one in theater with my sisters, but then I managed to hook my husband on the series later. Should I do a date night? A sisters’ night out? Shell out the money to go twice? Decisions, decisions!

  11. D. Shannon Berry

I would love to own this beautiful set! My wife and I are both book lovers, but we’ve never owned this set for ourselves. This would be the perfect addition to our library.

  12. Jenni L

That set is gorgeous! I can’t wait until it comes out even though I can’t convince anyone to go see it with me. I don’t know what’s wrong with these people! 😉

  13. Cait D

I really would like to reread Catching Fire before I see the movie…but I don’t have enough time! I’m hoping to sit down one weekend though (in the near future!) and reread the entire series. I love them so much!! Thanks for the giveaway! 🙂

I love THG so much. It is one of my faves. I love the world-building (although it scares me to think living in a world like that; but it was very creative), I love the creativity of new events..just wonderful. I love the strong impact of her brave characters. I love everything about it!

I’m not from US but I have relatives from there so if I win, I’d choose your paperbacks. UGHH LOVE THE SHINY COVER. <3

  15. Laura

I absolutely hate when delivery companies mess up or damage your order. That happened to me with a course textbook I needed before going to France, and it got lost in the mail. Now I have two copies of Dom Juan. But hey, it means you can give some away, which is sweet!

I love dystopian literature. I have a bit of a pessimistic view of the future, and it gives me all sorts of warm oozy fuzzies when I read it. Katniss is such an awesome name for a character — I wish I’d thought of it!

  16. Say

I really love Katniss.Though I havent read the books. So I would really love to win.I watched the first movie and I cant get over it lol.

  17. Diego Ocón

I love the trilogy of THG, I’m very excited for the movie. I’m sure that the director make a great job. I haven’t stop watching the trailers and lot of part of the books are coming out, even Annie will appear in Catching Fire.

  18. Em

The Hunger Games was one of the only books made into movies where I actually thought that they did a really amazing job.

  19. Allie L

I’m so so so so so EXCITED because the movie is finally coming out soon. Can’t wait to see Catching Fire. It’s not out yet, but I already want to buy the dvd.

  20. Nikki Ooi

I’ve only ever watched the movie so I’d love to read the books and know what they left out of the movies!

  21. aldelei89

i loved the second installment of the series. it made me emotional and i got more attached with Katniss than when i was in the first book. 🙂 the excitement and thrill, i love it!

  22. Raul Tavarez

I sincerely love everything about The Hunger Games trilogy!!! 😀 I mean, it’s sooo realistic, and it has something that grips you to it and never sets you free again. Everything related to The Hunger Games is PERFECT.

  23. Meghan Stith

I’m so excited about the new movie! Catching Fire was my favorite of The Hunger Games books! I know a lot of people said it was kind of a throwaway but I don’t think it is at all! Thanks for the giveaway! I would LOVE to own those beautiful books!

I went to see Catching Fire on the 21st (it came out a day early in my country, Jordan). And it was soooo freakin’ EPIC that I couldn’t stop gushing to everyone who would listen. I think they did a better job with Catching Fire than with any other movie adaptation(so far).
    And Thanks for the giveaway!

  34. teepee

Well, Finnick and Johanna really made an impact for me in the film, and I really thought they wouldn’t. Because both are very dynamic characters from the book. They were really portrayed well.

  35. Desnica Kumar

I can’t wait to watch Catching Fire! I’ve heard really good things so far but haven’t had the chance to go watch for me self yet *sigh* I plan on re-reading the books after watching Catching Fire…it’s been a while since I read them…
