HEAD-SCRATCHER OF THE WEEK

The Great Controversy by E.G. White: When I got my mail last night, this book was just sitting loose inside my mailbox.  I was so puzzled.  How did the mailman know that this belonged to me when there was no packaging?  And then I saw the little card included in the picture above addressed to “Current Resident” on the other side.  I have never received “junk mail” in the form of a book before.  The information on the card claims that has been read by “tens of millions.”  Tens of millions….what?  I’m thinking it’s not humans, since I’ve never heard of it before, and a quick peek at the GR page shows a grand total of 64 reviews.  I peeked inside the book and saw pages that are so thin that they’re transparent and font that is bound to induce a migraine (barely any spacing and no margins.)  This paperback is 374 pages, while the hardcover is listed at 719, so they went to great lengths to jam this into as few pages as possible.

Did anyone else get this in the mail this week?  I’m curious if this is a national promotional effort.  Oh, and if anyone in the US wants it, leave a comment, and I’ll be happy to mail it.  🙂

Let me know what hit your shelves this week!

I’m not sure of it’s Jehovah’s Witness, but it’s definitely religious material.

I’ve been looking forward to A Mad Wicked Folly, and I’m glad to hear you loved it! I’ve had a lot of luck with some great books from this time period.

Aww, book buying bans are no fun. But the good news is that this book will still be there when you life your ban. 🙂

I’m glad to hear that! The synopsis didn’t really scream out, “This is for me!” but there were so many great reviews and a pretty good deal for the audiobook on iTunes.

Definitely odd. I would have been much happier if it had been something I actually wanted to read. 🙂

I hadn’t thought of it that way, but yes, this is definitely book spam.

I still haven’t read anything by Ness yet. I know the reviews for this one aren’t that great, but if it doesn’t work for me, I still want to read more from him. (IIRC, you really liked More Than This.)

That is very strange about the mystery book. I’ve not ever gotten anything like that before. Odd. Otherwise, great haul. I’m eager to know about Hungry. I’ve not requested it but I might. curious to know what you think of A Mad Wicked Folly. Looks really good and heard the best things. Enjoy!

I need to look more into Mad, Wicked Folly. It sounds like my kind of read and I love that cover.
Ha! That’s funny that you just got a book out of nowhere. I actually got one a couple of weeks ago, but it was a MG novel. I’m not sure where it came from because there was no return address. :S
Enjoy your reads this week! 🙂

LoL. That Hungry title reminds me of a shirt my grandmother used to have. I would wear it to bed as a night shirt when I stayed there on the weekends as a kid. It had a fork on it, and it said Fork OFF.

She was big into Richard Simmons back then, and she dragged me to one of his exercise shows he did on tour. I talked her into buy that shirt while we were there.

    happy reading!! 🙂
