My reading tastes have not always skewed towards YA. But when I began my blog a year ago, that’s what I was reading, so YA became the primary focus of my blog. Since I got a bit of a late start, I’m now playing “Series Catch-Up,” and it seems like February is a big month for sequels and trilogy enders. So now, despite the fact that I’m behind on my ARC schedule (and feeling very guilty), I’m going to toss most of those ARCs to the side so that I can spend February catching up on books that I’m sure many of you have already read. Here’s what I’ve got on deck:
Under the Never Sky trilogy by Veronica Rossi
Status: I’ve already purchased the first two books, and Into the Still Blue is in transit to me at my library. And…drum roll…I finished Under the Never Sky today! I really enjoyed it, and this has made me feel much less overwhelmed about all the reading I still need to do.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Status: I’ve had the first two books in my possession for nearly a year, and I still have not read them. (I know, I know.) I’m first in the queue at the library for Cress, but if I love the first two books, I’m sure I’ll want to purchase Cress, too. I also see that there’s a sticker on the cover of Cinder that I still need to remove!
The Archived by Victoria Schwab
Status: Are you sensing a trend here? Do I need to say again that this is another book I purchased last year but still have not read? I’m really looking forward to this because I loved Schwab’s writing in Vicious. And I need to get my butt in gear because The Unbound is being held at the library for me to pick up.
The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd
Status: Here we go again…Purchased? Yep. Unread? Yep. I have the ARC of Her Dark Curiosity, so no library trips are required here. This is the series I’m the least excited to read, because the reviews aren’t quite as great as they are for the other three.
As I put together this post, it struck me that of the four series I listed above, I purchased books for three of them at an epic book signing last year with Meyer, Schwab, and Shepherd, as well as Beth Revis, Marie Lu, and Carrie Ryan. At the event, I purchased books by ALL of the authors, and so far, I’ve only managed to read the Legend series.
But WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN??? Clearly, I am acquiring books faster than I can read them. One of my reading resolutions this year is lighten up on ARC requests so that I can start to make a dent in my many unread purchased books.
So, tell me…Do you have as much trouble as I do balancing purchased books and ARCs? And I’d love to hear your thoughts on the series above! I’m excited to think that I have some great reading ahead of me this month.
