Review: Here by Richard McGuire

Review: Here by Richard McGuire

This is not so much a review as me frantically urging you, “Please go check out this book!”  I read a review of the graphic novel, Here, shortly before it was published in December.  It sounded so interesting – a novel that depicts images showing how a living room of a single house and its various inhabitants change over many decades.  The author also depicts that same little slice of our planet in the earliest days of Earth, as well as imagining what… Read more »

Top Ten Favorite Titles of 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new topic is given, and this week’s topic is: Top Ten Favorite Titles of 2015 A few weeks ago, someone on Twitter asked people to share some of their favorite titles of upcoming releases.  I checked out my GR TBR and saw lots of great, non-run-of-the-mill titles.  These titles are, first and foremost, unique enough to not sound like 100 other books out there.  The titles… Read more »

Review: The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber

Review: The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber

It is my dream that within my lifetime, we will make contact with intelligent alien life.  (Or more likely, they will make contact with us.)  Sure, I’d like for them to treat us nicely and go easy on the anal probes, but all things considered, death by alien invasion wouldn’t be a bad way to go.  I’m happy to read any author’s take on what human interaction with aliens might look like, and Michel Faber presents a story that is incredibly… Read more »

The Stacey Jay Kickstarter, Bullying, and Hypocrisy

I’m not usually one to wade into blogger drama, and I have TRIED to stay quiet on Stacey Jay’s Kickstarter campaign, but I feel like I need to write this post.  First, I’ll mention that I tried to read Jay’s book, Princess of Thorns, a couple of weeks ago, but I DNF’d after around 50 pages.  Not bad, but just not for me.  So when I heard that she set up a Kickstarter to fund the sequel, my response was a shrug.  But… Read more »
