That Time When the Paper Towns Movie Was Filming In My Backyard *

* OK, not exactly my backyard, but rather my neighborhood’s courtyard right off my back patio. While I was on my 5 month blogging hiatus, THINGS happened that I never got to share with you here.  One of the coolest things was the day in November that the movie adaptation of John Green’s book, Paper Towns, filmed some scenes around 100 feet from my back door.  I was aware that Paper Towns was being turned into a movie, but I had no… Read more »

The TV Shows You Should Be Watching

The TV Shows You Should Be Watching

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new topic is given, and this week’s topic is: THE TV SHOWS YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING I haven’t participated in the Top Ten meme in over a month.  But when I saw this week’s topic, I was delighted to jump back in.  There are so many good shows on right now, some I’m sure you all know about and some you may not. Game of… Read more »

Speculations on the Game of Thrones Season Four Finale

In less than 24 hours, I will be equal parts ecstatic and distressed.  The fourth season finale of Game of Thrones will air.  I’m not ready for it to end!  At the end of last season, I stated that I was going to read all of the books before the start of this season, at least up through Storm of Swords.  Guess what?  It didn’t happen.  I still haven’t even cracked open the first book.  On Sunday night, I assume I’ll… Read more »

Winter is Coming…Again!

Winter is Coming…Again!

We have been waiting for this moment for almost a year, although it feels much longer.  In about 24 hours, the fourth season of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO.  When the show last aired in June of last year, I wrote a recap of the final episode in which I stated that I planned to read the first three A Song of Ice and Fire books before today.  Well, that didn’t happen.  My main issue is finding the time to… Read more »

The Walking Dead Recap 4.9: “After”

“After” is the title of the first episode of The Walking Dead following the mid-season break in December.  After the Governor’s second (and much more successful) attack on the prison.  After poor, sweet Hershel took a sword to the neck and lost his head.  After Rick got the crap beat out of him by the Governor.  After Michonne rescued Rick by killing the Governor.  After the whole group scattered in twenty different directions.  Here’s where we stood at the end of… Read more »

The Silver Linings Playbook: Read It or Watch It?

The Silver Linings Playbook: Read It or Watch It?

If there’s one thing I want you to take away from this post, it’s that you MUST watch the film version of The Silver Linings Playbook, staring Bradley Copper and Jennifer Lawrence.  I saw it in the theater, even though I was skeptical about how much I would enjoy a film focused on mental illness.  But it was fantastic, and it was funnier than I could have expected.  Lawrence and Cooper were both nominated for Oscars (Lawrence won), and they… Read more »

Film Review: Her starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson

Film Review: Her starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson

“I can’t believe I’m having this conversation with my computer.”  Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) in Her. Her sounded so strange to me.  A guy falls in love with his operating system?  How would a romance like that even work?  And how would it be portrayed on film?  I’ve had my share of conversations with Siri, but I can assure you they never became romantic.  (WHEW!  Don’t you feel better now?) In Her, set in the near future, intelligent operating systems are… Read more »

Musings on Game of Thrones Finale

I watched the Game of Thrones finale last night, and yes, I had some thoughts.  Note: I have not yet read the books, so these musings are based only on the show.  It was nice to see that sweet little scene between Sansa and Tyrion.  I like Sansa, but she infuriated me when she whined and pouted when she learned she was going to be married to Tyrion.  Yes, he’s shorter than you, but you were going to be wed… Read more »
